MIDFIELDER Tom Walker described his home debut at The Peninsula Stadium as “really pleasing” after the game finished Salford City 3-0 AFC Telford United.

The 22-year-old started his third consecutive game, and went on to win Man of the Match for his performance as The Ammies opened up an eight point gap over second-place Harrogate Town.

“It’s really pleasing, we got the three points, and to be voted Man of the Match, I’m really happy!

“I think first half was a bit sloppy on the ball, giving it them back, wasn’t giving ourselves much time to get forward. But I think second half, the lads knew we had to step up our game and thankfully we did.”

FORM AT THE RIGHT TIME

Salford remain unbeaten in 2018 having drawn two and won the last two, and are in good form going into matches against play-off hopefuls Harrogate, Brackley, Bradford Park Avenue and York City.

For Walker, there is no reason why Salford can’t take points off their challengers as they continue their push for automatic promotion:

“I don’t see why not, we’re unbeaten in four games now.

“It’s a massive win today for the lads, gives us breathing space again for Harrogate for next week at home and hopefully we can get three points then.”

Joint-manager Bernard Morley added: “It’s important for us to go eight points clear again. We had a nine point gap which we threw away, people say it’s complacency but I think this league’s very strong and very unpredictable at times, but to get that margin again and that gap it puts pressure on them [Harrogate].

“Me and Anthony over the last nine years have been renowned for finishing the season strong; I don’t think there’s ever a season we’ve not finished strong.

“We’ve just got to concentrate on what we’re doing and hopefully at the end of this three or four weeks, if we come out of that eight points clear we’ll be over the moon.”
