Salford City is joining Football Clubs and Organisations across the country in a social media boycott from 15:00 BST on Friday 30th April to 23:59 on Monday 3rd May.
In response to the ongoing and sustained discriminatory abuse received online by players and others connected to football, we collectively feel this is a necessary action to emphasise that social media companies must do more to eradicate online hate.
This means that between the above times and dates, we will not be posting, engaging or interacting on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
Boycott action from football in isolation will, of course, not eradicate the scourge of online discriminatory abuse, but it will demonstrate that the game is willing to take voluntary and proactive steps in this continued fight.
However we don’t want supporters to be without any sort of coverage or information across the weekend so here is what we will be doing, and how you can find out what you want to know.
The club’s streaming service will be running as normal, click here for more information about how to stream the game and how to troubleshoot if you have any problems.
As there have been no issues with YouTube, due to their reporting and moderation procedure, the club will continue to use the platform to post video content.
In the absence of live updates on Twitter, Zarah Connolly will be hosting a special edition of Matchday LIVE which will continue throughout the game as a Watchalong.
We cannot stream the game, but supporters can watch and listen to Zarah and her guests talking about the game as it is happening, and continue to discuss the match in the comments.
The show begins at 14:30 BST, and will run right through the game until post-match when the studio will be joined live by a player or the manager from Colchester.
Post-match interview and highlights will be posted as normal on YouTube.
