Joey Jones, Salford City, The Peninsula Stadium, Salford City sign Joey JonesSalford City is pleased to announce the signing of midfielder Joey Jones on a two-year deal!

The 25-year-old joins us having helped Eastleigh to a play-off place in the National League in 2018-19, playing in both fixtures against Salford in the league and assisting both Paul McCallum goals when The Spitfires won 2-0 at The Peninsula Stadium in February.

Prior to his season at Silverlake Jones spent a few seasons in non-league’s top flight at Woking, and before that he had played at Arsenal, Leicester City and Yeovil Town. During his time with The Glovers he won promotion to The Championship, and now a few years on he is hoping to rise up the leagues again.

“I’m young and I’m ambitious and want to try and progress my career, and if I can do that with Salford then that’s brilliant.

“I think having met the manager and saw his ambitions, where he sees me playing, what he thinks of me as a player, and all the club itself, I know the history around the club and the ambition of the club is massive, and I think that was the main thing really.

“I’m predominantly a centre-midfield player and I like to get about the park, get on the ball, my passing range I’m going to bring a lot of different passes and shots. I’ve also played at the back as well so yeah I can bring a lot to the team.

“Hopefully we can go again, the club’s got ambitions to get into League One and get into the play-offs this year so I think that’s got to be the target again this year, to see if we can go again.”

Joey Jones, Salford City, Graham Alexander Manager Graham Alexander added: “We’ve been looking at Joey for a while, obviously he played against us a couple of times last year, he played at Eastleigh in a really good team that had a really good season.

“He can play central midfield, he can play as a centre half, he’s good on the ball, has a good physique and I think his best years are in front of him so we’re delighted.

“He showed a real determination to come to us as well which I think was a real positive sign so we’re really looking forward to working with him.”

Welcome to Salford, Joey, and we hope you have a successful career with us!
