Midfielder Richie Towell signed for Salford in the summer of 2019 following the expiry of his contract at Brighton & Hove Albion.
Born in the Republic of Ireland, Towell’s career started with Crumlin United before he was picked up by Celtic in 2007. He moved to Hibernian on loan in January 2011, and also spent the 2011-12 season with Hibs before he moved to Dundalk in December 2012 ahead of the 2013 Airtricity Premier Division season. There he won the PFAI Young Player of the Year award as Dundalk finished second, and went one better the next two seasons as The Lilywhites won back-to-back league titles.
With 51 goals in 118 appearances over three seasons, Towell was signed by Brighton in November 2015 and made his debut in the FA Cup at Hull City in January 2016. The following season he made one league appearance as Brighton were promoted to the Premier League. The next two seasons saw Towell go on loan to Rotherham United who he helped win promotion to The Championship with in 2017-18, playing in the division in 2018-19.
Internationally, Towell has played for the Republic of Ireland from Under-17 to Under-21 level.
