Goalkeeper Chris Neal signed on at The Peninsula Stadium in May 2018 after leaving League One outfit Fleetwood Town.
The 33-year-old started his career at Preston North End in 2004, and made his Football League debut in 2005 against Ipswich Town; his only appearance for Preston in five seasons at the club. In 2009 Neal moved to League Two Shrewsbury Town, and won promotion to League One as runners-up in 2011-12. However after failing to agree terms, he opted to remain in League Two with Port Vale and it paid off as he won promotion to League One in 2012-13, as well as picking up two Player of the Year awards.
He retained both awards in 2013-14 as Vale survived the drop, and despite a couple of injuries, which resulted in The Valiants offering Neal a two-year extension. After another consistent season in 2014-15, Neal started 2015-16 with an injury which limited his appearances at Vale and after a couple of loan spells at Doncaster Rovers and Bury, he left the club at the end of the season and signed a two-year contract at Fleetwood Town.
After keeping a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with Leicester City in the Emirates FA Cup Third Round, Neal was given a year’s supply of pizza from sponsor Papa John’s, but at the end of 2017-18 was released after the expiry of his contract.
In 2018-19 he didn't miss a minute of league action, and saved a penalty in the play-off semi-final to send us to Wembley where we won promotion to the Football League!
