Salford City is pleased to confirm the signing of Matty Willock ahead of the start of the Sky Bet League Two campaign on Saturday!

The 24-year-old joins us on a one-year deal, with an option, after a successful period on trial in pre-season which saw him feature in warm-up games against Burnley, Derby County, Curzon. Ashton and Lincoln City.

A box-to-box midfielder who reads the game well and transitions efficiently, Matty arrives from Gillingham after a two-year spell in Kent. Prior to that he had loan spells at Crawley Town, St. Mirren and St. Johnstone, all on loan from Manchester United.

“I’ve really enjoyed coming in, the training and the games have been good. I’ve been impressed the standards have been really high, it’s been just really enjoyable, I’ve got to know the lads over the last couple of weeks and we get on really well.

“I’m a player that, I work hard in midfield, I try and win the ball back, start off attacks and try and drive the team forward.

“I’m buzzing really to get it over the line, I’ve enjoyed the practice games and the pre-season games but there’s nothing like the season starting so I’m buzzing for the first game of the season on Saturday and to get going really.

“I spoke with the Gaffer and the Club and they have the same aspirations as me, we just want to achieve as much as we can in League Two and push on, I don’t think it’s a club that wants to stay in League Two I think it’s a club that wants to push higher and that’s the same as me, I want to push as high as possible so I think it’s the perfect fit.”

Speaking after making his seventh signing of the summer, Gary Bowyer added:

“Matty is a really good lad who has impressed while he has been with us. He is someone we believe will improve and we look forward to working with him!”

Welcome back to the area Matty, and we hope your stay is a successful one!
