Matty Lund in the West Stand after signing for SalfordSalford City is pleased to confirm the signing of sought-after Matty Lund after his departure from Rochdale!

The midfielder has signed a one-year deal with an option for a second, joining the tenth club of his career.

He started out at Stoke City, but had several loan moves including two to Bristol Rovers before joining Rochdale in 2013.

Nine goals in 45 appearances in 2013-14 helped Dale to promotion to League One, with Matty going on to make over 100 appearances at Spotland before moves to Burton Albion, Bradford City and Scunthorpe United.

The 30-year-old returned to Rochdale in January 2020, scoring 12 goals in 37 League One appearances before leaving earlier in the summer, and now he is looking forward to a new chapter.

“I can’t wait, it’s been a long summer trying to get something organised and I’m just looking forward to getting started again, getting out there for pre-season and I’m looking forward to the games.

“I spoke to the Manager a few days ago and, I’ve been here before, played here before so I know what it’s like and I know a few of the lads here, so it should be easy enough for me to settle in and I’m just looking forward to getting started and a fresh start for me really.

“I mean I think a lot of clubs in this league are going to look to get out of the league which always seems to be the case, but I think you’ve got to start well and you’ve got to really impose yourself on the league. I think if we do that and get off to a good start, start off with a positive attitude and hopefully get a few positive results to start with we’ll have a chance of going up.

“They’ve got ambition to go far and I like that, I got that from the Manager and everybody I’ve met here so far. It’s got a positive vibe around the place and I think we can go somewhere with it.”

An experienced midfielder to add to the squad, Gary Bowyer is looking forward to working with him this season.

“I’m delighted that we’ve been able to get the deal done, there was a lot of clubs chasing him and rightly so with the season he had last year with his goals and that’s what we’ll be looking for him to bring to Salford City.

“He’s got a great skill of arriving in the box at the right time and scoring goals and he’s got experience that will be so valuable for us throughout the course of this season. He’s a good lad and we’re really looking forward to working with him.”

Welcome to Salford Matty, and we wish you a successful time at The Peninsula Stadium.
