Striker Mani Dieseruvwe has signed a new two-year deal at the club!
The 24-year-old scored seven goals and registered three assists in 27 appearances during the promotion-winning 2018-19 National League campaign, including scoring the opening goal of the Promotion Final at Wembley.
He first signed back in 2017 ahead of our first season as a professional club, and has won two promotions in his two years.
Earlier in the 2018-19 campaign Dieseruvwe spent time on loan at Chester as he recovered from injury, but manager Graham Alexander believes the forward has a future at The Peninsula Stadium ahead of him.
“We had an option to extend Mani for another year but we felt that the strides he made when he came into the team towards the end, he’s still a young player, I think his best days are in front of him.
“There’s still bits that he has to improve but we feel he can do that with us so we offered him a new, longer-term contract to give him that timeframe to become the full player that we expect him to be.
“I think Mani had a stop-start season, he didn’t really get fully fit until the turn of the year, it took him a while to get up to the standards we expect from the first team, but once he did his impact on the team was excellent so the challenge now for Mani is to do it over the course of a whole season.
“We spoke to him at the end of the year about what’s required to do that, we will help him to try and achieve that, but we believe he’s a good young player with a bright future in front of him.”
