Salford City Lionesses’ 2019-20 season has been brought to an end.

An FA statement released on Thursday 26th March read:

“The FA, FA Women’s Board members and the Women’s Football Conference have consulted and reached a consensus regarding the women’s football pyramid.

“The FA and the leagues within tiers three to seven have reached a consensus to bring the season to an immediate end and all results will be expunged. This will mean no promotion or relegation of clubs between tiers three to seven.”

Read the statement in full here.

The Lionesses were competing in the North West Women’s Regional Football League Division One South after promotion from the GMWFL last season. They were top of the league with 37 points from 14 games, 13 points ahead of Curzon Ashton Women (who had games in hand).

For clarity, the Argyle Cup has also ended in which we were due to play Tranmere Rovers in the Quarter-Finals.

This is an unprecedented situation unlike any that football has faced before, and it is an unfortunate situation that we find ourselves in.

Nevertheless we are proud of what Salford City Lionesses have achieved in their second season, and thank everyone who has been involved for all of their efforts!

Please note that this decision is currently only in respect of Salford City Lionesses. There has been no further update on Sky Bet League Two or the Academy competitions, who will play no earlier than April 30th 2020.
