Defender Jordan Turnbull has agreed terms to join Salford City on a two-year deal!
The 25-year-old won promotion from League Two with Northampton Town after beating Exeter City at Wembley just a few weeks ago, but was released by The Cobblers.
A former youth player at Southampton, Jordan spend the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons on loan at Swindon Town before signing for Coventry City. A loan spell in Scotland with Partick Thistle followed before the centre-back joined Northampton Town in January 2018.
Jordan made just shy of 100 appearances in two-and-a-half seasons at the PTS Academy Stadium, including 42 in 2019-20, and found the back of the net five times – all last season. He played in both of Northampton’s games against The Ammies, and scored in their 2-0 win against us last October.
Following his release by Keith Curle’s side, he is looking forward to having another tilt at League Two:
“I’m very excited to be here, I’m happy it’s all sorted now. It’s been something that’s happened quite quickly but I’m excited for what’s to come.
“We had a brilliant season last season, I managed to play a lot of games and like you say we managed to get to the play-offs and go up through playing at Wembley. Brilliant experience, my first promotion on my CV and I’m looking to get many more and that’s one of the big reasons for coming to this football club.
“The vibe around the football club at the moment is very exciting and a lot is talked about promotion. When speaking to the manager the main topic was promotion, it’s what everyone wants and everyone is working towards so it’s definitely one of the main reasons I want to come and play at this football club.
“I look to go out there and just give everything for the team. I like to think I bring a little bit of experience even though I’m quite young, I’ve played a lot of games at this level last season, I got promoted, so hopefully a bit of know-how here and there and I can help the team as best I can.”
Commenting on his fourth addition of the summer, Graham Alexander added:
“We found out about his availability after Northampton’s promotion. We’re looking for a certain type of profile of player to come in, and he fits all those categories. After meeting him last week up here, he seemed really excited about possibly joining the club straight away, we saw a real desire from him to come here and vice versa with us.
“He’s just come out of a promotion-winning team from this division. What we’re looking at is players that are coming into the club from higher levels, or promotion winners, or captains, and that’s the profile we set out quite a few months ago to bring on board, and we’re delighted to get Jordan’s services for us.”
We hope you will join us in extending a warm welcome to The Peninsula Stadium to Jordan and his family, and we wish him a successful stay with us!
