SALFORD CITY suffered a first defeat of the season away at Gateshead on Tuesday night.

The Ammies started positively, and Adam Rooney bagged his first goal for the club in the 11th minute.

However Gateshead responded and equalised from the spot through Luke Armstrong, who went on to score the winner in the second half.

Manager Graham Alexander said: “We had a game plan to play, stuck to it, in charge of the game, dominating the game, then we got sloppy and played a different game.

“It allowed Gateshead to get a foot hold in the game, and to be honest the better team won.”

Salford return to league action on Saturday away at Sutton United (KO 15:00).
