Salford City is excited to announce the signing of Conor McAleny on a two-year deal!
The 28-year-old had a fantastic season in 2020-21, scoring a career-best 21 goals in 46 appearances at Oldham Athletic.
A graduate of the Everton Academy, the forward had a number of loan spells, notably at Oxford United in 2017, before joining Fleetwood Town permanently later that year. After seven goals in 55 appearances, and loans at Kilmarnock and Shrewsbury Town, he joined Oldham in August and finished the season as top scorer.
Now the Liverpool-born player is excited by his next move and has high ambitions for the season ahead.
“I’m delighted, really pleased and I can’t wait to get going now.
“100% I’ve come here to add goals. I think there’s goals in the team already and if we can all chip in and lean towards that one aim and get promotion we’ll be all pleased.
“I’m going to give everything for the team first and foremost, chip in with a few goals and create goals, as I said just work hard and do the best for the team.
“The squad’s brilliant and I think we’ve got the best chance of getting promoted. That’s got to be everyone’s aim and anything else is not acceptable so I’m really looking forward to it.
“It was a strange season last year for everybody, and I think everyone will say the same. You can score a really good goal and there’s no fans clapping, or make a nice tackle, attacking line-up, we just need a bit of that atmosphere back and I’m itching to get going.”
Manager Gary Bowyer says that the forward has been on his radar for over a decade, and says that fans should be excited about what our latest signing can bring.
“Conor’s somebody that I’ve seen since he was like 16 years of age at Everton coming through the youth ranks, and he’s got a wonderful talent. He’s a fantastic finisher and he can produce something out of nothing, and he’s an exciting player that I’m sure our fans will really enjoy watching.
“He’s a very good professional and another good lad that will fit well within our group, and he had a fantastic season at Oldham last year scoring those goals.
“That’s something that we’ve concentrated on bringing into the group this year and we’ve done that with the two today and obviously Josh Morris as well so the squad’s developing nicely. The lads came back to training on Monday and they’ve looked really, really good and it’s progressing nicely.”
Welcome to The Peninsula Stadium Conor, and we hope you have a successful time with us!
