Cameron Burgess, Salford City, Scunthorpe UnitedSalford City is pleased to announce the signing of Cameron Burgess on a season-long loan from Scunthorpe United!

The defender was signed for The Iron by Graham Alexander in 2017, and will be reunited with the Gaffer for our debut campaign in the EFL.

A former trainee at Fulham, Burgess had loan spells with Bury and Oldham before switching Craven Cottage for Glanford Park.

After making a number of appearances for Scunthorpe in League One over the last couple of seasons, the 23-year-old is striving for success at Salford.

“[I’m] buzzing to get it done, it’s good to finally get it out of the way and get on with the football now.

“It’s an ambitious club and ambitious manager, I’ve played for him before.

“He’s really good, an honest person to work for so you know what you’re getting right off the bat which is good, I’m sure the lads will value that as well and like I say, success, he wants success, he’s hungry for it and he’ll do what it takes to get that. I’m on board with it 100%.

“There’s a lot of lads that have got league experience here as well, I think that’s one of the good things about the squad that there’s a lot of different experiences from different places, and it all goes together so hopefully I can show what I’ve learned over the last couple of years playing league football and bring that to the team.

“It’s an ambitious club and I want to be a part of that so hopefully we’ll be fighting for something positive at the end of the season.”

Manager Graham Alexander added that the league experience was one of the key reasons for bringing the Australian youth international in.

“He’s a player I signed a couple of years ago for Scunthorpe, we’ve got him in on loan because we feel that we need to have good league experience, physicality, that natural left foot balance that we want within our team, and we need genuine competition throughout the squad.

“He’s a player that’s probably got a point to prove, he’s out of contract next summer and he’s here for a year loan, so we think he’s got all the attributes to be a top centre half but he’s got other centre halves that he’s going to have to compete with to get in the team and that’s what we want.”

We would like to welcome Cameron and his family to the club, and we wish you a successful year with us at The Peninsula Stadium!
