Defender Ash Eastham has been named as the new captain of Salford City!
The 29-year-old arrived at The Peninsula Stadium in January on a two-and-a-half year deal from Fleetwood Town, and wore the armband on his debut away at Stevenage.
Recruitment has been strong this summer with a number of leaders brought into the club, but the centre-back has been appointed as a Club Captain for the first time. He said:
“It was a proud moment when the Gaffer told me he wanted to make me captain, it’s something that I don’t take lightly, it’s a responsibility amongst the squad.
“We’ve got a lot of experienced lads that the young boys can look up to and see how to do it right on a day-to-day basis.
“You’re not just a captain on a Saturday, you’re a captain on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday when you’re turning up at the right times at training, when you’re doing your work in the gym, when you’re grafting hard on the training field and you’re living your life right, so we’ve got a lot of people who do it the right way and a lot of professionals.
“But from a personal point of view I’m really happy and really proud to have been given the armband.”
Manager Graham Alexander added:
“He knows how we want to work, I think he epitomises everything we want to see in a professional footballer the way he trains, the way he handles himself, he’s out there every single day maximising everything he’s got.
“It was a tough choice and we opted to go with Ash so I know he’ll do a fantastic job.”
