Salford City football Club

Salford City is pleased to announce the arrival of Andy Smith on a season-long loan from Hull City.

The centre-back joins for his first loan spell away from the newly-promoted Championship club, who he joined when he was eight-years-old.

He made his senior debut last season in the Papa John’s Trophy, starting in a 3-2 win against Fleetwood Town, before coming on as a substitute in the Carabao Cup First Round against Wigan Athletic just a few weeks ago.

Highly thought of in The Tigers’ set-up, the 19-year-old is hoping to get more exposure at first team level:

“Ever since I heard that there was interest from Salford in me it was a Club that I wanted to come to; the Club’s ambitious, and that’s only getting better. Speaking to the Gaffer he’s told me the plans for the season and it sounds really positive and hopefully we can have a good season.

“As my first loan I’m just looking to get as many games as I can under my belt, and hopefully just get in the squad as much as I can and hopefully get as many points for the team as we can. Coming on loan I want to experience some proper men’s football and get as close to real football as I can, and this is a fantastic place to do it.

“All the staff and the players at the training ground have been excellent, and as you can see from the stadium, the stadium’s really good and the pitch looks lovely so it’s a really good place to be!”

Manager Gary Bowyer added:

“We are delighted that Grant McCann and Hull have allowed us to take Andy on loan. He was very excited to come and join us and we look forward to helping him develop his career. He is an aggressive defender who can handle the ball and loves defending.”

We would like to extend a warm welcome to Andy and his family, and we wish you a successful season here at Salford!
